10:59 pm - Appendicitis defeats Tentacles
I was away from home working in Michigan from 17-25 May. My plane home landed in London first thing in the morning of Wednesday 26 May, and I stayed at home that day with Julie, planning to go into the office for a quick catch-up at my desk the next day, and then fly out to the Tentacles Convention in Germany for the long weekend of 28-31 May. After which we'd have a family holiday in France the next week, 1-6 June.

Except that Julie came down with appendicitis. She felt uncomfortable on Wednesday evening, was in some pain overnight, visited our doctor first thing Thursday, and was then rushed (with me) to our local hospital's Accident & Emergency department. Luckily, a cousin of mine works there as a registrar: Matthew, if you're ever reading this, we can't thank you enough for your help!

Julie had keyhole surgery on Friday morning, and we got to take her home again on Sunday. My children, Sarah (6) and Wilfie (4), have been superb. My parents looked after Sarah for a few days, while I distracted Wilfie with footballs in the park, boat rides up the Thames, rides at the Science Museum, etc.

The best news is that Julie is recovering well... she's managing not to take the painkillers the hospital provided, and is getting around very capably, considering what she's been through.
